A TRIBUTE TO Becky Schroeder, 1921-2018

We’ve learned sad news that Becky Boies Schroeder died on September 14, 2018. What a loss! So many knew Becky and her late husband Dolf for their tireless research and support of Missouri history and culture organizations.

She herself was a tenacious editor for the University of Missouri Press Missouri Heritage Readers Series, which covered just about everything Missouri–including Gladys Caines Coggswell‘s 2009 Stories from the Heart: Missouri’s African American Heritage.

As her family obituary notes, Becky Schroeder was “acutely modest” and “widely honored.” It was our honor to know her, to work with her on occasion, to see her at Missouri Folklore Society meetings, as long as she was able, and to hear from her by phone or note. Our sincere sympathies to her family and dear friends. RIP

The Columbia Missourian published two obituaries. The family obituary for Becky Boies Schroeder is published here: https://www.columbiamissourian.com/obituaries/family_obituary/rebecca-boies-schroeder-aug-sept/article_ea1d515e-c41c-11e8-8848-6f1d4734d0ce.html

A “Life Story” by Emma Veidt is published here: https://www.columbiamissourian.com/obituaries/missourian_life_story/rebecca-schroeder-used-literature-to-preserve-missouri-s-history/article_6748e5ca-c4c8-11e8-98fd-538d22919118.html
